Description

This spreadsheet helps user to design a mooring pattern for a ship mooring by its side (Port or Stbd) to the Quay. The spreadsheet is based on the US Navy DDS-582-1 Calculations for Mooring Systems

  • Calculates the Mooring Line Tensions
  • Rigorously calculates the environmental forces of wind and current from the graphs provided in DDS-582-1
  • Immensely useful in Mooring operations
  • Reports the factor of safety for the resulting mooring forces
  • It can be used to design for both normal or extreme weather condition
  • Only in SI Units!

An excelent idea to have a sheet to calculate the forces, congratulation and thank you for your efforts.

Good for determining loads on the vessel but not an iterative solver so this spreadsheet is a very simplified approach to determining mooring line forces.

After watching the youtube instruction video the calculation sheet is easy to use.

It would be nice to be able to extract results for further manipulation. Also, having X-Y and Z components of tension would be a nice column to have. I reverse engineered the extraction of those, but the locking mechanisms in the sheet make for a very wonky output.

would also be nice to have a graphic of T and Fy at each bit

Hi Jeff, thanks for the suggestions. We look to implement them in the next version
